Stone Bridge, Beacon Hill

Beacon Hill Park is the jewel of Victoria for good reason.  Its quiet pathways, ponds and lakes bring tranquility to the bustle in surrounding commercial areas.  The Stone Bridge spans Goodacre Lake amid lush year round greenery.  Camera: Canon AE1.  Film: Eastman Cine film; EI 80.  CA: 01-01-22 Edition of 10.

Rocks on a Beach

Just outside Pacific Rim National Park lie the ocean side resorts that front the wonderful beaches of the west coast of Vancouver Island.  One of these is Middle Beach and this image captures the essence of the area.  It has a soft gentle lazy stream of fresh water slowly making its way over the velvet sand to the Pacific ocean passing through the hard immoveable rocks thrown up by violent geological events.  Two solitudes; both captivating.  Camera:  Canon AE 1.  Film: Eastman Cine film; EI 80.  CA: 05-03-23 Edition of 10.

Resort Harbour

Early morning looking down Ladysmith Harbour from Page Point Inn.  Terrific cloistering mist.   Camera: Canon AE1.   Film: Ilford Delta 400 Professional. CA 02-07-16   Edition of 10.

Reflections of Ladysmith

Ladysmith, Vancouver Island, is a small town dedicated to resource husbandry, with the ubiquitous fishing capabilities as well.  As with all coastal communities, there are pleasure craft in abundance, and a quiet moment across the bay shows the harbour with the mountains beyond.  Camera: Canon AE 1.  Film: Eastman Cine film, EI 80.  CA: 02-07-07 Edition of 10.

Page Point Ladysmith

Across the bay from the town of Ladysmith, BC lies a wonderful resort quite well hidden from the world.  I woke up early and was rewarded with great foggy views of the harbour.  The fog seemed to hug me and the lack of the faintest breeze produced the typical glass-like surface to the water.  Camera:  Canon AE 1.  Film: 400 Delta Professional.  CA: 02-07A-01 Edition of 10.

Ogden Point Breakwater

Ogden Point in Victoria, BC, is the international cruise ship dock for visitors on their way from the lower 48 United States to Alaska.  The breakwater is a quarter mile strip  jutting out into the Strait of Juan de Fuca and has a marine park on one side and a sheltered pilot boat centre on the other.  It can be a lonely spot, especially in winter, as the winds from the ocean rip across the grey concrete.  As it was when I took this.  Camera:  Canon AE 1.  Film: Ilford FP4 Plus.  CA: 12-01-04 Edition of 10.

Mussels

Growing up on the Prairies, I thought that marine mussels were an exotic, rare seafood treat that I would never eat (for a variety of reasons).  Arriving on the West Coast, I found them to be everywhere there was ocean, and in some cases, as here, positively teeming and competing with each other for space on the rocks.  That’s a lot of mussels!  Camera:  Canon AE 1.  Film: Eastman Cine film, EI 80.  CA: 94-01-09. Size:  10 ½ x 13 ½ inches.  Edition of 10.

Middle Beach Log

Sometimes you just take a picture because the texture or plain oddness of the subject compels you to do so.  This is one of those times.  The incredible wave action of the grain in the log as it follows the log’s tortuous bends captivated me.  The ‘feel’ was just right.  Camera:  Canon AE 1.  Film: Eastman Cine film, EI 80.  CA: 05-03-19. Edition of 10.

Long Beach, Evening

This picture is the essence of the romantic and relaxing reality that is the West Coast of Vancouver Island.  The evening summer sun dies on the horizon, illuminating the clouds and outlining the shoreline and distant islands beyond.  Near the Pacific Rim National Park.  Camera:  Canon AE 1.  Film: Eastman Cine film, EI 80.  CA: 94-01-26. Edition of 10.
