Hansen Photography Images of the Canadian West Coast
by M. David Hansen

Welcome

While reality is composed of a bewildering array of shades of colour and hue, black and white images strip a scene to its gray emotions, and convey a feeling divorced from the reality we live in.  Often stark, monochrome images can also convey a singular warmth without distraction.  It allows the viewer to experience their own interpretation of the scene as well as the photographer’s.

There is a confusion about what fine art photography is, both amongst photographers and within the public domain as a whole.  To some it is simply an excellent photograph.  This would include both photojournalism and a lucky family snap.  But fine art photography is more than that, and I can say it no better than Brian Rivera:

Fine art photography … is first and foremost about the artist. It is not about capturing what the camera sees; it is about capturing what the artist sees.1
